Timetable
The mine will involve 7 major phases, each approximately 170 to 200 acres in size. The
yearly mined area will range in size from 15 to 25 acres. From boring logs taken at the
site, an average yearly mined area will contain approximately 1.8 million tons of resource,
if mined to a full 60 foot depth. The expected life for a phase would be a minimum seven
to ten years, requiring a resource demand for rock of 500,000 cubic yards per year.
The mine phasing is laid out so that mining begins at the north end of the properly
adjacent to the railroad. Mining begins away from the processing plant and moves
towards the Arkansas River. Mining between phases will be continued dependent upon
construction resource demand. In this case, stockpiled waste, subsoil, and topsoil
materials will be graded to the reclaimed cropland or shoreline condition or dozed into
each of the lakes for phases previously mined, leaving no stockpiles being mined and on-
site and no unreclaimed cropland or shoreline areas.
The overall operation sequence would indicate set up of the plant site within the first year
- of operation and ensuing mining which will irnolve a total active operation I'rfe of 50 to 60
years.
Subsurface Geoloav
From test holes drilled at the site in June and August, 1993, it is known that various sand
and gravel materials are present at the site from depths of approximately 6 feet to 60 plus
feet with typical rock diameters increasing with depth. The sand and gravel resource is
underlain by shale and sandstone.
D-5
