-18-
Item: fence removal and cattleguard installation to re-establish range
pasture boundaries.
Res onset Homestake has agreed to remove the access road livestock control fences
and install cattleguards as necessary to re-establish range pasture boundaries.
Homestake has been meeting with the District office of the Forest Service
to determine how best to re-establish the pasture boundaries, in keeping with
the range management plan.
Item: Adequate reclamation and rehabilitation time must be alloted to assure
stabilization of the slopes before the operator is permitted to walk away.
Response: Slope stabilization is discussed in detail in the above responses
to Dr. Pendleton's and Bob Liddle's review memorandums.
The Mined Land Reclamation Board as well as the U.S. Forest Service
will make the determination that adequate reclamation has been accomplished,
prior to the release of reclamation surety. Homestake's reclamation efforts
currently underway will provide certainty of the success of the slope
stabilization effort.
The above information is provided as an addendum to Exhibit E of the
Pitch Mine Reclamation Plan, as amended January, 1984. Exhibit L, of the
amended Reclamation Plan, should be revised to include the following additional
reclamation costs:
Item Cost
o Final design of topography, including
drainage, based on actual conditions. $11,000
o Location, exploration, and design of
cascade structure. $10,000
o Exploration, evaluation, and design of
dam spillway. $17,000
o Riprap and drain junction design. $ 5,000
Total Engineering Costs $43,000
o Pit wall topographic monitoring. $16,000
The total reclamation cost/financial warranty shown in Exhibit L is
increased from $2,204,004 to $2,263,004.
