is a building depression measuring 12' z 24'. No artifacts were found in association with
Feature 4.
The abandoned homestead has little integrity and no potential to provide additional information.
The site is not associated with any events that have made a significant contribution to the theme
' of Cattle and Livestock Ranches and Associated Features (1881-1944). The information
potential of the artifacts at the site has been exhausted by recordation. There is no evidence of
sub-surface cultural deposits.
5DL1000
' Site SDLI000 consists of a stone building constructed on a sandstone ridge overlooking the
North Fork of the Gunnison River. The site contains two features. Feature 1 is constructed of
locally available tabulaz, random, drylaid sandstone. The structure is built in a depression
approximately 3' deep. Lichen covers most of the building stones. A chimney is constructed
into the eastern wall; no evidence of burning. There is a dirt floor which contains some stones
1 from the partial collapse of the south wall. There ;s no evidence of a roof. No artifacu were
found associated with this feature. Feature 2 is a brush covered pile of tabular sandstone (10'
x 15').
The abandoned building has no azchitectural integrity and no potential to provide additional
information. The site is not associated with any events that have made a significant contribution
to the theme of Cattle and Livestock Ranches and Associated Features (1881-1944). There is
no evidence of sub-surface cultural deposits.
' SDL1001
Site SDL1001 is a small ranch containing five features as well as corral azeas. Some of the
' corrals aze still standing, but it appears that much of the fencing has fallen and lies concealed
in undergrowth. Feature 1 is a house depression (18' x 24'). It appeazs that the house burned
given the burned lumber scraps found in Feature 4 and a fire scarred tree. Feature 1 contains
a kitchen stove lying in the depression and a part of a bed frame lying on the edge of the
feature. Feature 2 is a single seat outhouse (3' x 9') constructed of saddle-notched aspen logs
and containing a small window in the south wall and a small stove placed in the north wall.
Pazt of the roof, constructed of dimensioned lumber, remains. Feature 3 is a stock shed
measuring 18' x 24' which is surrounded by wire fence. The structure stands approximately 10'
high. The north and west walls aze still standing. The north and east walls aze constructed of
dirt filled log framing. The west wall is constructed of logs without the dirt filled framing.
Extant walls aze saddle-notched. South face appears open. Feature 4 is a lumber scatter (9' X
30') which contains burned and unburned dimensioned lumber presumably the remains of the
ranch house. Tin fragments and a portion of a stove pipe aze part of the feature. Feature 5 is
a makeshift animal pen (10' x 15') built azound a lazge boulder. The pen is constructed of wire
' fencing with wood poles; the boulder overhang provided shelter. Tall, dense weeds obscured
22
