<br />' The Schaeffer Homestead, named after Earl Schaeffer, was an eazly ranch in the region. The <br />abandoned homestead has little integrity and no potential to provide additional information. The <br />site is not associated with any events that have made a significant contribution to the theme of <br />Cattle and Livestock Ranches and Associated Features (1881-1944). <br />' There is no evidence of sub-surface cultural deposits. <br />1 5DL998 <br />This site is called "Gribble's Cabin" by the present landowner and is associated with Jumbo <br />Spring No. 2. The site is located neaz the head of Gribble's Gulch and consists of seven <br />features. Feature 1 is the sparse remains of a cabin. The extent of cabin debris measures <br />approximately 20' x 18' and contains dimensioned lumber fragments (w/ wire nails), notched <br />logs, and a light scatter of cans (sanitary, lard buckets, aluminum), no bottle glass or ceramics, <br />a fragment of rubber, and an enameled basin. Feature 2 is a domestic trash scatter measuring <br />90' x 75'. This feature contains small amounts of bottle glass (brown, green, milk) and pieces <br />' of window glass, a diagnostic bottle base, two fragments of earthenwaze, eight tin cans, <br />numerous tin can fragments, dimensioned lumber fragments, and a stove body ("Great Western <br />Stove"). Feature 3 is a dimensioned lumber concentration measuring 3' x 6'. Feature 4 is <br />1 Jumbo Spring No. 2 pond/dam measuring 156' x 132'. Feature 5 ;s a dugout (13.5' x 15', 4.5' <br />deep) with two Criss-crossed logs lying in the bottom of the depression. A few small boulders <br />are placed along the east face of the dugout suggesting an entryway. No artifacts aze found <br />directly associated with the dugout although the dugout does lie within the domestic trash scatter <br />(Feature 2). Feature 6 is a small pit dug in 1993 by Bill Fuller in an attempt to £md some <br />valuables that his grandfather hid behind the cabin. Mr. Larry Mautz, present landowner, was <br />with Mr. Fuller when the pit was dug. No valuables were found. The feature measures <br />approximately 3' x 3'. Feature 7 is a fenced area surrounding Jumbo Spring No. 2 measuring <br />36' x 24'. Apart of a fruit pitting machine was found in the spring drainage channel. <br />' The abandoned cabin and site have little integrity and no potential to provide additional <br />information. The site is not associated with any events that have made a significant contribution <br />to the theme of Cattle and Livestock Ranches and Associated Features (1881-1944). There is <br />no evidence of sub-surface cultural deposits. <br />SDL999 <br />Site SDL999 is a homestead which contains 4 historic features. Jumbo Spring No. 5 is found <br />approximately 150' south of the site boundary. Feature 1 is an animal pen (20' x 35') <br />constructed of small tree limbs and trunks; held up by wire. The pen is approximately 6' high <br />1 and portions of the walls have collapsed. No artifacts were found associated with Feature 1. <br />Feature 2 is a an area (50' x 30') surrounded by wire fencing and containing a few small pieces <br />of plywood. Feature 3 is a building depression measuring 15' x 21'. Artifacts associated with <br />' Feature 3 include a bucket, Mason jar, bedframe part, leather fragment, canning jar lid, milk <br />color glass fragments (3), stonewaze fragments (2), and earthenware fragmenu (2).
