.F .
M-82-033
Feb 4, 1994
page 2
6. Using the numbers from your map for total permit area, total
pit area, and total length of permit perimeter, it appears
that you have an unmined ribbon of land averaging about 10.5
feet wide around the pit. Given the pit's wavy, irregular
shape, I have some trouble accepting that.
What I am trying to help you establish is a permit area whose
boundaries account for not just the pit, but also for: all mining-
related disturbance which has occurred on the site since 1976;
sufficient setback for highwall reduction; all roads, ramps and
loadouts; and areas of equipment storage and/or stockpiling. You
are not required to include areas disturbed by mining prior to
1977, unless they have been redisturbed since then, nor areas of
non-mining activities. Just so we can communicate and be "on the
same page" so to speak, I have sent a copy of my site diagram.
Ultimately, we need to determine a permit area, and move on to
working on the conversion. Please respond to the items above at
your earliest convenience. If you have questions, please contact
me.
Sincerely,
~~~ ~~~~
Bob Oswald
Environmental Protection Specialist
attachment: site diagram from field notes
(dmgcorr2.94/7-8)
