• taractica. Mosses occur in the moist habitats shaded by the shrubs,
primarily the large sagebrush plants. Moss species present include
Grimmia laevigata, Tortula papillosissima, and T. ruralis.
3.3.2 Production
Total herbaceous production (Table 5) is very low at 218 lbs/acre. The
annual grass lifeform, composed almost exclusively of cheatgrass,
accounts for 120 lbs/acre or 55 percent of all biomass produced. The
native perennial grasses produce 87 lbs/acre or 40 percent of all
biomass. Perennial forb and annual and biennial forb production is low
at 8 and 3 lbs/acre, respectively.
3.3.3 Woody Plant Density
Woody Plant Density is relatively high at 5,560 plants per acre (Table
6). Snakeweed, with a density of 3,537 plants per acre, accounts for 64
percent of the total. Mountain big sagebrush is the next most abundant
with a density of 1,586 plants per acre. Other shrubs with a much lower
density include wildbuckwheat (243 plants/acre), fourwing saltbush (105
plants/acre), prickly gilia (73 plants/acre), and rubber rabbitbrush (16
plants/acre). Black sagebrush was not present in the reference area.
3.4 Plant Species List
The upland sagebrush affected and reference area is characterized by
~~ species typical of the flora of the Great Basin region (Table 7). The
affected and reference areas include 70 vascular plants in 61 genera.
Additionally, five soil cryptogains were identified. The vascular plant
list includes 3 trees, 12 shrubs and subshrubs, 4 succulents, 15
perennial grasses, 2 annual grasses, 24 perennial forbs and 10 annual
forbs.
All but six of the 70 vascular species present are native to the region.
.
