9-70
Sandstone bedrock is encountered below about 30 inches in some
• pedons.
4.7.9.2 Map Unit: DL - Disturbed Land, Variable Slopes
This map unit is on nearly level to very steep slopes. The
slope range is 0 to 55 percent or more. The existing vegetation
is mainly weeds, "weedy-type" forbs and perennial grasses.
Typically, the disturbed soil includes some (20 to 35 percent)
road fill material. The disturbed soil averages about 4 inches
thick but may be 18 inches or more.
Permeability of the disturbed soil varies from moderately low to
high. Available water capacity is moderate to moderately low.
Effective rooting depth varies with depth of fill material and
• degree of plant establishment. Runoff is moderate to very high
and the erosion hazard for water is moderate to very severe (in-
creasing with steepness of slope). Wind erosion hazard is moderate.
The map unit is mainly used for mining activities including roads,
portals, and facilities.
The present plant community is mainly summer-cypress, western
wheatgrass and some rabbitbrush and lupines.
Six grab samples were taken from the surface of disturbed areas.
These samples were described and analyzed with other samples. The
samples are representative of the fill material in the sample
point areas.
