The average first day of recorded diversion was 26 May and
ranged from 1 May (2001) to 24 June (1981). The average last day of recorded diversion (other
than 0.25 CFS for stock and domestic water) was 4 September and ranged from 9 July (1974 and
1991) to 31 October (2001). The additions to Table 2 (above) show the water made available by
the dry-up agreement (based on the 76-yeaz average): 9.2 acre-feet in 2001, 17.8 acre-feet in
2002, and 31.7 acre-feet in 2003.
Climatic Conditions
For calculation of crop irrigation requirements and historic consumptive use since 1984, monthly
and daily mean, high, and low temperatures were estimated from NOAA records for Rico
(elevation 2682 meters) Mancos5 (elevation 2094 meters), and Dolores (elevation 2115 meters)
weather stations, adjusted linearly for elevation by the factor of 3.6 degrees F per 1000 feet (1
degree F per 84.67 meters) of elevation. Monthly precipitation values were estimated from
NOAA records for Dolores adjusted geographically using the NOAA-approved USDA-NRCS
Colorado Average Annual Precipitation Map. This information is provided at Attachment 4 to
the SWSP. This data was used to estimate the growing season for Line Camp for each yeaz.
Crop Irrigation Requirements
Using the modified USDA-NRCS Blaney-Criddle methodololry and the data described above,
The crop irrigation requirements for the hay and pasture grass irrigated by the Home Ditch were
calculated for the period 1985-2003. The requirements increased slightly, to 107.5 acre-feet
average (1.97 acre-feet per acre) for the period 1971-2003, due mostly to warmer and drier
° The original driveway was replaced by a new driveway approximately SDO feet further south, in comp]iance with
requirements of the Colorado Department of Transportation. The old driveway was blocked from connecting to
S.H, 145 but is still used for access to barns, sheds, and fields, from the Line Camp headquarters.
s Rico records for temperature are not available for 2001-2004, and so Mancos temperatures were used for that
period. Dolores records cover precipitation, but no temperatures until 20(13.
6
