INTRODUCTION
This report is an update to the Tipton and Kalmbach, Inc. "Historic Use and Consumptive Use of
the Home Ditch" prepared for the Dolores Water Conservancy District in October 1986, as
directed by the Colorado Division of Water Resources.
This is not a replacement for the 1986 report (hereafter referred to as the T&K 1986 Report), but
should be viewed as an addendum, updating use data for the purpose of determining current
water rights for the Home Ditch. Therefore the same organization as the original report shall be
used, and data from the original report merged into this document, without any review or
analysis of the data or conclusions drawn in the original report:.
Four items were included in the original investigation and the T&K 1986 report, but only one
item isrevised/updated by this report:
#3. Estimating the crop imgation requirements, imgation efficiency, and historic
consumptive use for 1971 through 1984.
This item is revised to include these requirements and historic consumptive use for 1971 through
2003.
DISCRIPTION OF HOME DITCH:
No change from T&K 1986 report except:
- a current, corrected USGS Map showing the location of the ditch, diversion, and
irrigated land is provided as Enclosure A to Attachment 3 (this document).
- in May 2004, a large portion of the Home Ditch was improved by installing pipe in the
ditch, to reduce evaporation and infiltration losses. A much smaller section of the Home Ditch
had been encased in a culvert under the new entry to Line Catnp in 2001.
4
