• The tree swallow, the thixtl most abundant species, was encountered in the
aspen aryl riparian vegetation types. The total abundance was 1.6 individduals/
km. The species was much more ocaa~on in aspen than riparian habitat and
exhibited an affinity for the former type.
The 1lmerican robin was observed in all five vegetation types sampled and
was the fourth most abundant species encountered (1.4 individuals/km).
As a result of its ubiquitous distribution, the species did not exhibit
an affinity far any habitat surveyed.
The F~ewer's sparraa was the fifth most abundant avian species observed
(1.3 individuals/km). This sparrow was encountered in the Gambel oak and
upland sagebrush habitats and exhibited an affinity for the former type.
The brawn-headed cowbird was the sixth most -`--,want avian species observed
(1.3 individuals/km). This species was encountered in the aspen, mixed brush,
riparian, and upland sagebrush habitats, but did not exhibit a habitat
• affinity for any types surveyed.
The violet-cgeen swallow was the seventh most aknn+~~*+t species observed
(1.2 individuals/km). This species was observed only in the riparian
type and acrordingly, exhibited an affinity for this type.
The rufous-sided towhee was not found in high numbers in any habitat type
(0.4 individuals/km); however, it did have a widespread distribution among
habitats on the study area. It was found in all vegetation types sampled
except riparian but as a result of the low number of observations, an
affinity for arry one habitat was not a~~*+t.
Winter Passerine Hixds. Only three passerine species were observed during
the winter transact surveys. These species, listed in decreasing order of
relative abundanoe, were black-billed magpie and the black~apped and
mountain chickadees. The blar_k-billed magpie was observed in the aspen
arri Ganibel oak habitats and exhibited an affinity for Gambel oak. The
• black-capped chickadee and mountain chickadee were observed only in the
-39-
