Asphalt and Concrete Plant Operations
Location
A concrete plant and portable rock crusher will be located
southeast of the intersection of the Boxelder Ditch and
County Road 9 on a part of the East Rigden site zoned I-Industrial.
An asphalt plant will be located north of the ditch/road
intersection on the mine site.
Traffic
Location of the concrete and asphalt plants at the sand and
gravel mine eliminates the necessity of hauling product to a
second location for processing. The asphalt and concrete plants
will generate 106 vehicle trips (to delivery site and return = 2
trips) during a typical day. Total haulage from the site will
create 190 trips. (Also, one load of cement and one load of
oil will be trucked to the site daili.) If the concrete and
asphalt plants were located elsewhere, 96 vehicle trips would
be generated by the sand and gravel mine to `aul material to
these plants, in addition to the 106 vehicle trips generated
by the two plants and the total haulage create3 wou13 be :36
trips. Location of the plants at the mine site reduces traffic
volume by about a third.
Access from the plant site to County Road 9 meets public safety
considerations for stopping sight distances. Sight distance of
1500 feet is considered adequate under any conditions.l Sight
1Highway Capacity Manual 1965, Highway Research Board Special i
Report 87, National Academy of Sciences, p. 301.
D- 9
