pumped from the dewatering trench so that gravel can be mined
dry. NPDES permit CO-0035200 has been issued for this operation.
Size of Areas - Phasing - Disturbances
Mining will follow the sequence described above and will be
conducted in B stages. First, overburden will be stripped
from the area to be mined with a scraper. A dewatering trench
around the area to be mined will be dug by backhoe. Ground
water percolating through the gravel strata will collect in the
trench and be pumped from its lowest point to flow eventually
into the Cache la Poudre River. Front end loaders will excavate
the dewatered gravel face leaving a base of approximately 8
inches of gravel above the bedrock shale. If a backhoe is used
for excavation, no gravel base will be left above shale.
A portable crushing/screening plant will be located south of
the intersection of Boxelder Ditch and Co. Rd. 9. Pit run
gravel will be taken to the crusher by front ^nd loader or truck
and conveyors. The crushing/screening operation will produce
aggregate for road base, concrete and hot mix. Road base ~-ill
be stockpiled strategically near the crusher to be hauled to
construction sites during the construction season. Hot mix
will be produced on site by a portable asphalt plant, and concrete
by a concrete plant.
If economic conditions remain as projected, preparatory work

D- 4
