<br /> <br />3. At this time a pump is placed in the downstream end of <br />the dewatering trench to keep the pit dry. <br />4. Two pieces of earth moving equipment are used to remove <br />the aggregate. The front end loader is used in conjunction <br />with a scraper or truck. Once the transporting vehicle has <br />been filled by loader, the aggregate is either carried to the <br />crusher or stockpiled for future use. An alternative method <br />is to use a backhoe to remove the gravel and fill trucks. <br />5. In modern operations the reclamation process is simul- <br />taneous with the mining operation. Using topsoil and other <br />overburden, the ground surface is shaped into final contours <br />reestablishing land forms or creating new lard forms for <br />future use. <br />Earthmoving <br />East Rigden Farm contains approximately 300.0 acres, Mininq <br />will affect about 195 acres, principally on the northern portion <br />of the site and nearest the river. A total oz about 3,500,000 tons <br />of sand.and gravel will be removed. Plans call for removal of <br />about 500,000 tons per year; however, yearly volume is affected <br />by economic conditions.
