The pit will continue to operate annually. The supply is undetermined, but is
expected to last indefinitely because of the limited usage of the pit. Mining will begin as
soon as all the proper permits are obtained.
The equipment to be used in the pit area will be a dozer, front-end loader, large
backhoe, scraper, and trucks. All equipment mainenance will be done at the Ensminger
Construction maintenance shop in Haxtun.
Water Resources -
The pit site does have the North Fork of the Frenchman Creek flow
through it. This is normally a dry creek, flowing only in periods of heavy
run-off. The creek channel itself if about 75' in width as it passes through
the pit area During periods of heavy rainfall, the flow will enter and
sweep the pit area, often depositing more material. Because the bottom of
the creek allows rapid percolation, water will not stand more than a few
days at the most The excavation will be such that ground water
elevations will not be encountered. No existing water rights will be
injured.
EXIIIBIT D -Reclamation Plan
Part of the pit area lies within the banks of the normally dry North Fork of
Frenchman Creek. The creek area only has a vegetative cover in dry periods.
Floodwaters destroy such vegetation periodically. No topsoil will be put in the creek bed
since it would only be washed downstream during the next heavy rainfall. The ultimate
footprint of the entire pit area will serve to widen the creek as it passes through the area.
The north and south sides of the pit will be back sloped from the bottom of the pit area to
the originally ground elevation at a slope no steeper than 3:1. The north and south slopes
will be seeded after topsoil is placed over the slope. The Haxtun Natural Resource
Conservation Service has been contacted for recommendations for topsoil placement,
cover, mulch, and seeding requirements. Their recommendation will be forwarded upon
receipt as part of our reclamation plan.
The primary reclamation plan for the pit is to allow the floodwaters of the North
Fork of Frenchmen Creek to smooth out and reclaim the pit, The area will essentially be
returned to being a dry, creek bed, which is the present state.
EXEIIBTT E -Maps
Location Map
USGS Quad Map
Site Map
Mining Plan Map
Reclamation Plan Map
