(5) 'the ponds will be unlined. Water seepage ~rom the
• ponds will depend upon the time of year and the hirght of
any groundwater table. ~
I
(6) The ponds will be cleaned periodically and ~he fines
or sediment will be used in reclamation.
(7) Three other existing dams in the disturbed areas of
the North Central Phase will not be further used or
disturbed.
(8) The new ponds will not be sealed. Water will be
allowed to percolate through the ground and retur to the
groundwater systems. No chemicals will be adde to the
water. Therefore, once the suspended solids are filtered
out, the water quality will be essentially unchanged.
(9) During mining, some groundwater will be enco ntered.
This water will be transported in association ith the
material taken Eor processing. After processing, t e water
will be piped to tfie pond and will gradually seep b ck into
the groundwater. There should not be a signifi ant net
change in the quantity or quality of groundwater.
Areas of Disturbance
There are existing private and state roads to provid access
to the entire permit area. Additional haul ro ds, if
required, will be within the permit boundary. S nce the
area is relatively flat, only slight grading w uld be
required for haul roads from the excavated cuts to the
processing plant. Acreage of major, moderate an minor
disturbance are presented in Table 2. The figures are Eor
all acres requiring bonding, including acres undergoing
revegetation for a two-year period.
(1) Major disturbances will include areas being excavated
or backfilled with spoil materials. Backfilling will be
continuous with excavations.
(2) Areas of moderate disturbance include the processing
plant work areas, on-site roads, ore stockpiles nd the
impoundments.
(3) Areas of minor disturbance are those and rgoing
reclamation and topsoil stockpiles. These areas ill be
staked in the field with steel posts and colored lags to
indicate the extent of disturbance.

13
