(3) Topsoil will be spread over the graded surEac Too-
• soil depth will vary from 9 to 12 inches, dependi g on the
site. A Eront end loader will spread and grade the topsoil.
(4) The final surface will be compacted before seeding.
The surface will have rolling slopes of 1$ to 48 to conform
to the post-mining land form planned. Exhibit E.
i
Diversions and Impoundments
The mining plan has been designed to avoid direct impacts on
Columbia Ditch and the South Platte River. ~
(1) An intermittent irrigation ditch, the Columbi Ditch,
runs northeast of the permit area and crosses th permit
area at several locations as shown in Exhibit C, late 2.
The lease includes use of the adjudicated water r'ghts in
this ditch. An existing diversion from Columbia Ditch and
buried pipe are indicated in Plate 2. It is proba Le that
an alternate diversion will be constructed close to the
plant site as indicated in Plate 7_. It is not ant'cipated
that Columbia Ditch will need to be diverted at a y time.
Columbia Reservoir, two miles north of the Alma Plac r, will
be cleaned prior to mining operations to avoid Eish in
Columbia Ditch.
(2) 7'he South Platte River runs through the s uthwest
portions of the claim. The South Platte River's ba ks have
been impacted by historical mining on the proper y. New
mining operations during the term of this permit ill not
impact the South Platte River in any way. A buffer zone of
at least 50 feet width from the stream banks will e main-
tained at all times, except for Access Road A, which already
exists.
(3) A buried water conduit runs along the eastern ortions
of the claim. A buffer of 200 Eeet will be maintained at
all times from this conduit.
(4) Any surface runoff encountered will be diver ed away
from the mining and processing areas with the use of ditches
and berms. Runoff will not be allowed to reach ny dis-
turbed sites. The Columbia Ditch intercepts surface run-on
upgradient for the entire mine site.
(5) Water from processing and encountered excess ground-
waters will be stored in the impoundment located at Plant A
and subsequently at the impoundment in the South entral
Phase. The impoundments will settle any suspended solids.
If necessary, water may be recycled from the impound ent by
pipe to the processing plant for reuse.

12
