upstream drainage areas. Pond ooi and proposed pond 007 will
also be used to store water from the pit dewatering
activities and surface-water runoff control ditches around
the mine pits. Water for dust suppression and for use as
construction compaction make-up water will be pumped from
these ponds as needed.
It is our understanding that the ponds were designed to
satisfy Colorado M1ned Land Reclamation Division (CMLRD) and
the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements with
respect to overall capacity, pollution and sediment control,
and flood routing. Each pond has an emergency spillway and a
principal spillway of corrugated metal pipe, with the inlet
• at an elevation correspondin4 to the maximum sediment
storage or dea8 storage volume. The 'principal spillway is
intended to automatically dewater the pond to the level of
the inlet. To release water below the level of the input
,would require pumping.
As designed, these ponds may allow water to be stored
and potentially used out-of~priority. To prevent impact to
downstream users, PCC will commit to dewatering the ponds
below the level of the principal spillway inlet with a non-
clogging pump whenever a call is made downstream for the
water stored out-of-priority. Discharges will be made in
compliance with CMLRD and EPA requirements.
25
,r ~f
u
GEOTRANS, INC.
REVISED MARCH 2006 Attachment 2.05.6(3)(b)(v)-1-30
