• 1.2.5 Augmented Seeding and/or Cultural Practices
In addition to 1993 replaced topsoil revegetation practices, Trapper also conducts several aug-
mented seeding and/or cultural practices. These practices are addressed below.
Mature Shrub Transplant Clumps
No mature shrub clumps were constructed in 1993. One mature shrub clump is proposed in
1994.
Drainages Reconstruction
The acreages, location and methods are fully described in Section 3.0 of this annual report.
Diversion Ditch Reclamation
During 1993, Trapper removed approximately 0.5 acres of diversion ditches. Ditches were
removed from our runoff control system since vegetation success and the remaining diversion
system is adequately handling runoff events. After ditches are closed, they are seeded to the
appropriate range site mix based on elevation. The areas reclaimed are documented on our
annual fall aerial photos.
Livestock Tanks
Trapper constructed one livestock tank in West No Name drainage during the 1993 field season.
See Section 6.
• Developmental Drill Sites
During 1993, Trapper broadcast seeded approximately 12 acres of developmental drill sites
using the approved seed mix. The specifics and locations are presented in L. Johns's 1993
Developmental Drilling summary.
Topsoil Piles
See Section 5. Topsoil stockpiles were smoothed and seeded to the approved 1993 perennial
topsoil pile mix. Approximately 44 acres were treated.
Sediment Dams
During 1993, sediment ponds East Pyeatt #2, Grouse #1 and Grouse #2 were constructed. West
Buzzard #1 was cleaned. All dams were broadcast-seeded with the approved dam seed mix.
During 1994, sediment ponds West Pyeatt #1 and East Pyeatt #1 will be cleaned.
Historical State Agricultural Holdings
As mining operations progress across our coal leases, Trapper affects former state agricultural
leases. Since 1976, Trapper has permitted the agricultural lessee to continue farming practices
but with the stipulation that Trapper withdraw acres from crop production when mining advance
dilates. Areas outside mining prestrip operations are either left in historical crop rest-rotation
(small grain) or converted to perennial haycrop if these areas have the potential to contribute
• significant amounts of sediment into existing sediment control ponds. As previous cropland
areas are mined and reclaimed, Trapper converts all small grain produlion fields to permanent
vegetation with the approved haycrop mix in order to reduce erosion potential and manage
these areas until they revert to historical use after bond release.
