,; -_
In Wyoming, fine textured soils (clay ) 40X) are marginal with SAR's
between 10-15.
In reviewing [he suitability and/or unsuitability requirements for tex-
ture as presented by other states and that found in the literature, in no
case were spoils containing > 35X clay unsuitable when associated with
low SAR values. So long as Trapper spoils maintain a suitable SAR (< 12)
and a saturation percentage of < 80, the percent of clay composition
within each spoil area should no[ be of concern (see attached letter from
Steve Workman, CSU Soil Testing Laboratory).
Discussion and Recommendations
As stated previously, the purpose of spoil sampling and analysis was to
demonstrate that a surface spoil layer has been replaced with acceptable
physical and chemical properties to promote plant growth and successful
reclamation. The spoil data strongly indicate Trapper Mine has accom-
plished this goal within the sample area. With the addition of suitable
topsoil, these regraded spoils will provide an excellent medium for plant
growth for any pos[mine land use desired. Trapper proposes no additional
spoil sampling or other analysis be conducted on these areas as no
problematic soil areas exist in the 1985-1987 sample areas.
WA/jb
