not expected to contribute significant:Ly to the leaching performance. •
The composite sample was split into samples designated CR-A and CR-B.
The weight percent of antecedent moisture was determined by measuring the
weight of water lost upon drying for 4 .;lours at 105°C.
The samples were packed into columns approximately 30 cm long and
10 cm in diameter. The packing was accomplished by use of a rigid tube
attached to a funnel. The tube was given a short-stroke motion that adds
solids to the column on the upstroke and provides a degree of compaction
on the downstroke. The solid is not allowed to free fall on this method
and particle segregation is minimized.
The antecedent moisture was displaced by injecting through the
bottom of the columns at constant rate using a positive displacement
pump. Effluent from the top of the columns was passed through an
electrical conductivity (EC) cell and periodically sampled for chemical
analysis.
The salient parameters of the leach tests are listed in Table 29,
Parameters of Column Leach Tests. The materials in each test were •
essentially identical. Note, however, that CR-B was packed somewhat more
(Revised 05/11194) •
2.05-64
