i0

chipping stations. Sane remarks discussing this differential site
density are presented in the concluding section of this report.
FIe.1D ~IHODOL.OGY
Previous Surveys
In general, each of the previously conducted surveys used
roughly parallel pedestrian transects at intervals ranging from
10 - 30 meters depending upon topography, surface visibility and
the nature of soil deposits. In the author's opinion, the described
field methods in each of these three previous reports are adequate
for the terrain and site expectations in the Kerr Permit Flea.
• 1980 [~,4I Survey
'Ihe gently to moderately sloped terrain presented few problems
ier pedestrian survey of the lease area. Topographic maps and canpass
bearings enabled location of section markers and mine boundary stakes
and these were recorded when found. The unsurveyed portions of the
project area were carefully examined by walking transects with each
crew member spaced from five to thirty meters apart, depending upon
width of the undisturbed and unsurveyed areas and vegetation. In
broad areas of limited vegetation, crew members walked 30 meter transects
parallei to known section lines. In areas restricted by mining oper-
ations, narrower transects were used, often following lease area
boundary fences aril stakes. Upon encountering historic or prehistoric
cultural remains the perimeter of the site was determined and arti-
factual concentrations located. Site information was recorded on
the site form and the topographic map. Crew members assisted in
