9
•
Evaluation: 'this site appears to contain data which mught
qualify it for the National Register of Historic Places. The presence
of artifacts and a partially eroded fire pit in alluvial/col.Luvial
fill indicates that data of a chronological and a functional nature
could be recovered from the site. Specifically, data from the site
could aid in the detailing of culture chronology through the analysis
of arr_ifacC types and the recovery of material for radiocarbon dating.
A functional interpretation of site data would contribute to subsistence
and settlement analysis.
In 1979 the BLH requested the concurrence of the State Historic
Preservation Officer (SHPO) in the BLM's determination of "no effect"
for site SJA416. By letter dated November 28, 1979 the Sk~O concurred
• in that determination; a copy of that letter is attached to this report.
In the Principal Investigator's j~gment, the "no effect" determination
is appropriate in light of the BLM's requirement that the site be
fenced.
Aside from the above-referenced sites, the remainder of pre-
viously~recorded cultural resources consists of isolated finds of
individual artifacts or features. Table II summarizes These isolated
occurrences. None of the isolated occurrences are eligible for
the National Register.
Inspection of site maps on file at the Kremmling Resource Area
in Kremmling, together with a sLUmnary table provided by Area ~.rchaeo-
logist Tom Manabe, indicate a greater prehistoric site density in those
areas surrounding the Permit Area than is indicated for the permit
area proper. These sites are primarily small prehistoric camps or
