IS..
2
aze very invasive and move onto disturbed areas very quickly. Some of these can be noxious
weeds and require control based on the state noxious weed list. Through immediate seeding to
promote temporary cover, the opportunity for weed invasion will be less, as w$1 the patemial for
erosion. For seeding the stockpiles, Lunapubescent wheatgrass and/or Amur intermediate
wheatgrass are recommended, both of which wdl establish read~7y and quickly. This temporary
seeding should be done at a rate of 15 total pounds 1'I.S per acre.
The application states that topsofl removed from the site will be treated with along-team residual
pre-emergern orpost-emergent herbicide to reduce noxious weeds. The grasses recommended
for te~orary re-vegetation ofthe topsod and overburden stockp~7es may be negatively, affected
by certain herbicides; instructions on the herbicide label should be closely followed to avoid
problems. I4 is highly recommended that the applicant ceordinate weed treatrne~ plan
development and implemernation with Kelly Uhing, Adams County Cooperative Extension (303-
637-8100), to ensure compliance with the Colorado Noxious Weed Act.
Reclamation Re-Ve etati
The applicant proposes placement of ti' topsoil over all reclaimed areas. It is recommended that
this be increased to 12" topsod that is spread in lifts not to exceed 4 inches and worked into the
slopes to ensure good adhesion and to minimize soil creep. In order to reestablish nornral levels
of microbial activity in the sot7, compost at the rate of one cubic yard per 2000 tt''shouldbe
mixed with the sot7. If cohost is not applied, after topsoil replacement and before. grass
seedmg, the soil should be tested to determine the need for additional fertilizer. Recommended
grass seeding dates are from November 1"through Apn130°i; seeding should be done in
unfrozen sml A good quality grass seed dn71 with an agitator, depth bands and press wheels is
recommended
The following native grass seed mix and application rate is recommended for re-vegetation in the
sot? types found in the mine area for upland and disturbed areas.
