1.2.b Cultural Practices
In add"Rion to 1997 replaced topsoil revegetation practices, Trapper also conducted several
other cuRural practices. These practices are addressed below.
Mature Shrub Transplant Clumps
In 1997 Trapper began constructing two mature shrub dumps in Derringer PR. However, we
were unable to finish the Gumps due to muddy cendRions that resulted from wet fall weather.
The two mature shrub dumps started in 1997 a2 scheduled to be completed in 1998.
Drainage Reconstruction
The acreage's, location and methods are fully described in Section 3.0 of this annual report.
Contour Ditch Construction
During 1997, Trapper constructed approximately 3.02 acres of contour dtches in Deringer
Pit. Ditches were constructed to aid in our runoff control system. After ditches were
constructed, they were seeded to the appropriate range site mix based on their location.
Stock Tank Construction
No Stock Tanks were constructed during the 1997 field season. See Section 6.
Stock Tank Reclamation
• No Stock Tanks were reclaimed during the 1997 field season. See Section 6.
Developmental Drill SRes
No drill sites were rectaimed during the 1997 field season as all drill holes fell within two years
of planned mining (Section 3.3.2.1 of Trappers Mining and Recamation Permit). The
specifics and locations are presented in L. Johns's 1997 Developmental Drilling summary.
Topsoil Piles
See Section 5. Topsoil stockpiles were sbped and seeded to the approved 1997 perennial
topsoil pile mix. Approximately 10.97 acres were treated.
Sediment Dams
During 1997, sediment pond West Flume was constructed. East Pyeatt #1, East Pyeatt #2,
No-Name fit, Oak #1 and Elk were ceaned. All dams were broadcast-seeded with the
approved seed mix
Historical State Agricultural Holdings
As mining operations progress across our coal leases, Trapper affects former state agricul-
tural leases. Since 1978, Trapper has permitted the agricultural lessee to continue farming
. practices but with the stipulation that Trapper withdraws acres from crop production when
mining advance dictates. Areas outside mining prestrip operations are in historical crop rest-
rotation (small grain) or converted to perennial haycrop. Cropland areas mined and reclaimed
are seeded to the approved perennial haycrop mix. Trapper continues to manage these areas
until they revert to historical use after bond release.
