Sec. 24, T 9N, R 70W of the 6th PM. <br />W~, NW4, SEa, Sec. 24, T 9N, R 70W of the 6th PM. <br />TYPE OF MINE AND SUBSTANCE TO BE MINEDc <br />This operation will be a strip mined Quarry to produce <br />limestone rip-rap, ballast, sub-ballast, road base, and <br />asphalt and cement aggregate, <br />This quarry operation was started in 1905 by Charles <br />Evans Roberts to supply limestone for the many Sugar Factories <br />operating on the Front Range at that time. The original <br />operators used "Pry Quarrying" methods to remove the rock. <br />The major quarrying was halted in the 1930's and since then <br />small quantities of rock have been extracted and used on <br />various projects. The Colorado Dept. of Highways used aggre- <br />gate from this quarry to build the existing Highway 287 from <br />Livermore to LaPorte in 1970. <br />GENERAL LOCATION AND ELEVATION Or OPERATIONS <br />COUNTYc <br />ACREAGE OF AFFECTED LANDSi <br />The quarry is located approximately 2 mile West of <br />U.S.Hwy. 287, 15 miles North of LaPorte and 5 miles South of <br />Livermore at an Elevation of 5625' above sea level in Latimer <br />County, Colorado. <br />The total affected areas of this operation will be <br />6 <br />approximately Acres. Only about 10•~ of this land is <br />visible from U.S. Hwy 287, because it is obscured by a minor <br />ridge that parallels Hwy 287. <br />-2- <br />
