Page 3
Monitoring
To ensure that the pond slope and hill slope are not moving, survey
monuments will be installed. Rebar will be driven into the ground along
the slope and measured on a quarterly basis for a year. This schedule may
be adjusted during periods of high snow cover. If movement is occurring,
the situation will be re-evaluated and monitoring will be continued. The
survey notes from the quarterly inspections will be kept on file at the
Seneca Mine site.
Safety
The SB-slope calculations indicate that the slope will remain stable even
under the most severe loading conditions. As an extra precautionary
measure, all vehicle operators will be instructed not to stop on that
portion of the road above the slide. Truck drivers will also be
instructed that two trucks are not to be on that portion of the road at
the same time.
Final Reclamation
Pond 006 has been approved as a permanent impoundment. It is highly
likely that the post-mine land owner will also request a number of haulage
roads to be left after mining and reclamation is complete. In accordance
with CMLRD regulations, haul roads will have to narrowed to accommodate
the intended post mine use. The haul road adjacent to Pond 006 (north
side) will be narrowed by pulling material from the south side of the
road, onto the road. This material will then be hauled to an approved
location. Material will not be bladed or dumped onto the pond slope
during reclamation of the haul road due to potential instability. The
reclaimed areas will then be topsoiled and seeded as appropriate.
