Folkerth/M-97-027
06/02/97
page 2

detailing the seed mix species, the column labeled "% of mix" looks as if it should actually be
"pounds of seed per acre in a pure stand"; and the heading of "% of mix" should have a column of
numbers under it such as "10, 45, 5 and 40", respectively. Finally, I assume that the last column
in the table containing the drilled rate of each seed species actually represents the rate in "pounds
of pure live seed (PLS) per acre". Please comment.
Please describe the pit floor drainage pattern after mining.
do appreciate the detailed reclamation cost breakdown that was provided with this application.
Exhibit E -Maps
The maps provided in the application do not contain any topography, though the pre-mining map
depicts the edge of the existing scarp and the reclamation map depicts some areas of 3:1 slopes.
It would be very helpful to see the topography of the mesa top, the ephemeral drainage which passes
through the middle of the site, and the surrounding land. Even without a detailed topographic
representation, aseries of cross-sections would be helpful.
The mining map shows the direction of mining, but please indicate where the operation will begin and
where processing and stockpiling wilt occur. Will there be any mining or reclamation phases?
These are all the questions I have at this time. In the interest of expediency, I will fax this letter to
your consultant, Brian Wilson, from whom I assume the response to this letter will come. Please be
reminded that this letter and your response, plus any future correspondence concerning this
application, will have to be placed on file at the county clerk and recorder's, with submittal of a
receipt showing such placement. This is necessary only until the application is approved.
If there are any questions, please contact me at the following address or phone:
Division of Minerals and Geology (970/247-5193)
484 Turner Dr., Suite F-101
Durango CO 81301
Sincerely,
~~l (~->~
Bob Oswald
Environmental Protection Specialist
fax copy to: Brian Wilson, Earth/Stone Ltd.
