For more than 20 years I have been working to make Swift
Ponds something very speical. I am now concerned that the
Timnath Connell Pit, File No. M-99-050, will adversely affect
the use of the Ponds. The Ponds are designed to provide an
out door experience in as natural a setting as possible, for
children, mobility impaired and seniors. The money and hours
I have spent on these Ponds is not important, but the threat
of losing this vital community resource for the people who
need it most is very important to me.
The greatest beneficial uses for the Swift Ponds are to
provide:
A variety of fishing and outdoor experience for groups of
youth, mobility impaired, senior citizens, etc.; An enhanced
environment for fish and a wide variety of wildlife; A site
where environmental research and learning for groups and
individuals from the very young through college and beyond
can occur.
Some of the groups from through out the community that have
utilized the Ponds include:
City of Fort Collins
Latimer County
Colorado State University
University of Northern Colorado
Division of Wildlife
Numerous grade school, middle school and high school
classes
Scouts, Boys, Girls and Cubs
Camp Fire Girls
Craig Hospital, Denver
Uenver Department of Parks
Church Groups
And many more
The maintenance of the water level in the Ponds is of concern
for the following reasons:
1. To maintain sufficient water level to support the
fish population
2. To afford water levels that will support other
aquatic plant and animal life as well as waterfowl
and wildlife.
3. To allow access to fishing and other water activities
especially for the mobility impaired, senior citizens
and children.
