After the cessation of mining activities, the office, shops and pazking area will be used by the
owner of the land and thus, these structures will not be removed. MR 33 was approved to allow
for these structures to be permanently retained on the site. MR 39 was approved to allow 9
raptor perch sites (Map 9) to be. temporarily retained to assist in hunting efficiency of raptors
to control rodent populations and reduce erosion due to their burrowing activity.
Access Roads
Several access roads as depicted on the Reclamation Area (Map 7) will be retained for post
mining uses. These include access to the office and shop buildings, access to the top of the east
pit fill area, and access to the south side of the Stollsteimer Creek along the west toe of the east
pit fill area. In addition, the truck turn around area located on the north side of Highway l51
will also be retained as a livestock loading area. Approval to retain these facilities was provided
as Minor Revision Number 33.
Ponds. Impo»r~trnenra and Diversions
To control runoff and protect surface water quality, the Chimney Rock Mine has constructed
sedimentation ponds, interceptor ditches and terraces in accordance with Sxtions 4.05.2 through
4.05.9 of the CMI.RD regulations. Five impoundments, Ponds A~002, 11003, p004, and 11005,
and Sediment Trap A have been constructed to control runoff from disturbed areas of the mine.
The Drainage Control Map (Map 8) depicts the location of the impoundments, ditches, and
associated structure. All design criteria for sediment control structures are contained in Exhibit
• 7, Sediment Control Design Criteria.
Maintenance procedures will include mowing or cutting excessive vegetation growth to facilitate
inspections and repairs, keep ditches, culverts and spillways free of debris, acrd removing all
combustible material (other than mulch and other material required for erosion control and
surface stability). Sediment will be removed from the sedimentation ponds when the volume of
sediment accumulates to 60 percent of the design sediment storage vohune. A stake will be
driven into each pond to monitor sediment volume. The accumulated sediment will be removed
and placed in existing topsoil or subsoil stockpiles, if it meeu the appropriate criteria for such
use.
The sedimentation ponds and interceptor ditches will be completely removed and reclaimed upon
the cessation of mining operations, but not until the disturbed area served by the ponds has been
restored, vegetation requirements met and the quality of the nmoff entering the ponds is
consistent with the quality of Stollsteimer Creek, as established by baseline quality data and
contimring quarterly analysis.
The above referenced Drainage Control Map (Map 8), describes the location of all structures
necessary for sediment control within the permit area. Generally, ponds, spillways, interceptor
ditches and terraces were sized and placed according to such hydrologic factors as required
sediment storage vohune, rate of flow and volume of flow for the predescribed precipitation
event.
2.05-2 Rev. 3-1-94
SS ~ST 46.
