Introduction
The water quality assessment (WQA) of unnamed tributaries to East Salt Creek near the Central
Appalachia Mining, LLC -McClane Canyon Mine Wastewater Treatment Facility (Central
Appalachia W WTF) was developed for the Colorado Deparhnent ofPublic Health and Environment
(CDPHE) Water Quality Control Division (WQCD). The WQA was prepazed to facilitate issuance
of the Colorado Discharge Permit System (CDPS) permit for the Central Appalachia W WTF, CDPS
Permit No. CO-0038342, and is intended to determine the assimilative capacities available to the
Central Appalachia WWTF for pollutants found to be of concern.
Figure A-1 on the following page contains a map of the study area evaluated as part of this WQA.
The Central Appalachia W WTF dischazges to unnamed tributaries to East Salt Creek. This facility is
an active coal mine. Outfall 001 discharges surface runoff water only and outfall 002 dischazges
pumped mine drainage only, and each outfall dischazges to a different unnamed tributary.
Discharges aze typically intermittent.
Appendix A Page 1 of 9 Draft
