formula given by U.S. Forest Service/ B.L.M for this elevation. We will do
the reclamation ourselves sloping sides as shown in drawings and reseed as
well as mulch after everything is done.
Phase 1. We will be excavating an area 217' x 400' x 20' deep. We will
strip top soil from area of the pit known as phase 1
approximately 6" to 8" deep plus 10% and stock pile the material
on what is known as phase 3. This material will be sloped and
seeded, it will then be saved for reclamation of phase 2.
Phase 2. We will be excavating an area approximately 217'x 400'x 20'
deep in phase 2. We will use material striped from phase 2
to cover phase 1, approximately 6" to 8" deep plus 101/o after
we have sloped phase 1. After the slope has been done to a 3
to 1 slope we will finish seeding and mulching and reclaming
phase 1.
Phase 3. We will excavate approximately 200'x 400' x 20' deep. The
material that was saved from phase 1 and stock piled on phase
3 will be used to reclaim phase 2. After sloping side to a
3 to 1 slope and enough material 6" x 8" deep plus 10% will be
stock piled in phase 2 to be left for reclaiming phase 3.
C. We don't propose having any waste rock as rock, sand, and gravel is what we
intend to mine. The only waste that we foresee would be the topsoil and
anything else that we save out of the way during operations to be used for
reclamation in the end.
D. The thickness of the deposit to be mined is up to 60 foot deep.
E. The major components of the mine will be roads (some already existing),
access routes, the pit, a crusher, a screening plant, possible scale and office.
There will be no underground openings. The office will be skid mounted and
a portable scale with earth ramp will be located approximately 300' east of
the recharge pit/gravel pit. This office and scale will be used not only for
weighing gravel, but Hay we will be raising on the farm also located where the
pit will be.
F. We will mine 9 acres in 4 different phases the first of which being the recharge
pit which will not be reclaimed except to haul out the materials extracted to
build the recharge pit. Each phase will go down 10 to 20 feet in each phase
and making separate stock piles of the various materials we will be mining.
G. We propose a 30' wide road as shown on map and bridge crossing canal.
The bridge will serve two purposes: to connect farm lying on both sides of
canal and also to give access to the pit. This road will be permanent even after
the pit has been closed because it will still serve as access to the back side of
my property and the field which will be under a sprinkler. Part of our
agreement with the Colorado Division of water is having water resources
approved to be able to drill wells on both sides of the property. Run off would
not be a problem because our recharge pit will be dug low enough that
anything in the pit would not run back out. See map for pit contours.
