-4-
• DIVERSIONS AND TOTAL USE
Water at the Kerr Coal Mine will be diverted for dust
control, various domestic and commercial uses, and retained
on the property as sedimentation pond storage. Water used
for these purposes will be derived from tributary ground
water that will seep into the mine pit and from surface
water retained as dead storage in the 14 proposed sedimenta-
tion ponds. The water rights owned by Kerr, except for the
storage rights attached to the sedimentation ponds, are
listed in Table 1. The sedimentation ponds are listed in
Table 2.
Water for dust control at the tipple will be derived from
the well KW-3, Permit 23696F. Water for dust control at the
mine will be derived from "wells" 21266F and 24616F and the
• 14 sedimentation ponds. Water will be needed for dust
control only during the months of May through October;
little to no water will be needed for dust control during
the remaining winter months. Water for dust control at the
mine will be collected by truck from any of the named
sources. The truck will spread the water on haul roads as
required. Water for dust control at the tipple will be
pumped from well KW-3 and sprayed where necessary. The
total water required for dust control is estimated to be
2.2 of/yr at the mine and 0.3 of/yr at the mine tipple. The
monthly distribution of diverted water is presented in
Table 3. The monthly use of water for dust control is not
expected to exceed 0.42 acre-feet.
The water for domestic and commercial uses at the mine will
be pumped from Kerr Well 20253F. Water pumped from this
well is tributary to the Canadian River system. This well
is permitted for 15 gallons per minute (gpm), and has a
xl Leonard Rice Consulting Waler Engineers.lnc.
