COLORADO A1:,02
TO: J.E. Sutherland
FROM: Jim Lance
RE: Maintenance Pit on Independence Pass
-).4TF.: September 17, 1980
Concerning the rehabilitation of this area following gravel extraction, I would make
th2se comments:
1. A soil sample should be sent to CSU for testing of nutrient levels.
2. All existing trees (12) twelve inches in height and smaller should be transplanted
at the proper time to the buffer area between the pit and Highway 82. This will
help increase the density of the screening and save the trees.
3. Careful consideration should be given to the physical layout of the stockpile and
plant site so as not to pollute the creek on the west boundary.
4. No cutting or Pilling should be allowed within the dripline of the tree. The
dripline being the tips of the branches.
5. Any duff or topsoil should be salvaged and stockpiled for later use.
6. Revegetation should include the planting of seedling lodgepole pine as per
Forest Service recommendations as to the number per acre, season of planting, etc.
7. Grasses and fortis seeded should be at the following rates and types:
'Manchar` Smooth Brome
Meadow Foxtail
Slender Wheatgrass
Timothy
'Reubens' Canada Bluegrass
'Durar' Hard Fescue
Dutch White Clover
Yarrow
Lbs. of Pure
Live Seed/Acre
Bromus inermis 'Manchar' 7.0
Alopecurus pratensis i.0
Agropyron trachycaulum 5.0
Phleum pratense 1.0
Poa compressa 0.5
Festuca ovina duriscula 'Durar' 1.0
Trifolium repens 1.0
Achilles lanulosa millefolium 0.5
T07AL 17.0
This mixture yields 165 pure liveseeds/sq.ft.
•
