Section II
Alternatives, Includinv the Preferred Alternative
General
All four sites are within a radius of 1; miles of each
other and encompass approximately 15 to 20 acres of surface
area each. The facilities required at the quarry site
include the quarry pit, crusher, truck loading bin, stockpile
area, and necessary truck access road. With each site being
located near the base of a steep limestone outcrop, there is
little variation in the topography and other elements of
environmental concern between the four sites.
Preferred alternative (Labeled "P" on the
This location is at the base of a large limestone
outcrop and at the head of a small drainage hollow between a
major drainage channel to the west (Oasis Creek) and a
small, intermittent drainage channel to the east (Cascade
Creek). It is at an elevation of 6700 feet and 1.2 haul
road miles from a paved access road. It is out of sight and
approximately 1 airline mile from the nearest dwelling.
The advantages this alternative has over the other
three relate to the aesthetics, air pollution and the
economics of the operation. It is more aesthetically
acceptable because it is located in the bottom of a hollow
out of site of all inhabited areas and public highways. It
will require only 1.2 miles of unpaved haul road which will
