Mined Land Reclamation Colorado Department of Natural Resources 423 Centennial L'uilding 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 RE: Reduction in Scope of Easeline Hydrology Ptonitoring at Meeker Area ~?ines Dear Mr. ShelCOn: The t•feeker~Area Mines hydrology monitoring program was initiated in play of 1979 and was designed to provide data which could 6e used to establish an adequate base- line from which we could predict, observe and mitigate any impacts on surface and/or ground water regimes during mining. During the time since our hydrology monitoring program was implemented, three significant events have occurred: 1) at least a year's baseline data have been compiled on all surface water and ground water monitoring sites, 2) a decision caas made to postpone indefinitzly the development of the P and S '4ines, and 3) mining at Northern No. 1 has been temporarily ceased. To date the program has consisted of six basic types of monitoring: surface water, ground water, mine wafer, sedimentation ponds, stock ponds and spring seep water. We have continued this monitoring program i.n order to obtain at least one year of data. In December of 1981 we completed one year's data collection for each of our si:: baseline monitoring systems. The purpose of this letter is to notify you that coe intend to reduce our baseline data collection. Of course we will main- tain our required system of. alluvial monitoring and monitoring for the Curtis Crcek area. We have designed, with the help of our consultants, n system which will enable us to continue monitoring in the areas which could be affected by oar operation in the Rienau !'ine (G Seam) and tha
