4-119
• one mile to the north in Section 21, T7S, 4102W. See
Figure 4.8-2. ~ (~y~?
Total percent cover is higher in the reference area (63.3
percent) than the affected area (47.0 percent). Cover in
the reference area is dominated by shadscale saltbush and
cheatgrass as is true for the affected area. See Tables
4.8-10 and 4.6-24.
Production in the reference area is comparable to the affected
area and averages 70.1 g/m2 or 625 pounds per acre compared to
666 pounds per acre in the affected area. cheatgrass is the
dominant producer in the reference and affected areas. See
Tables 4.8-11 and 4.8-25.
Total shrub density in the reference area averages 2,684 shrubs
per acre or about half the shrub density (4,603 per acre) in
the affected area although shrub species composition is similar.
See Tables 4,8-12 and 4.8-26.
Species richness is higher in the reference area (index = 8.50)
than the affected area (6.92). Equitability is nearly identical
in the reference and affected areas (0.62 and 0.61, respectively).
As in the affected area the low species richness is attributable
to the extreme environmental conditions of these south-facing
slopes. See Table 4.8-6.
•
