NCIG does not anticipate any maj~~r changes in access to the mine
facilities area (i.e., new road construction or bridges across the
Colorado River). However, the county road and mine access road
will be upgraded during facilities construction and operations.
Increased traffic on the county and mine access road is not an-
ticipated to affect large mammal movement patterns due to their
location in limited use areas. Activities within the Permit Area,
other than surface facilities, will be limited except in emecgency
situations.
The cutting of snags (standing dead trees) within the Permit Area
will be prohibited, except those that need to be removed from
mining operations. This will minimize the loss of perches and
nesting trees for raptors, cavity nesters, and insectivorous birds.
NCIG will not use persistent pesticides or herbicides in the Permit
Area during mining and reclamation activities.
During orientation, employees will be instructed that NCIG will
prohibit discharging firearms in the area for any purpose, in-
cluding harassment of wildlife.
NCIG will do everything possible to prevent and control fires
within the Permit Area which are not approved by the regulatory
authority. Should DOW or BLM request burning of the mountain shrub
for wildlife or livestock habitat: management, NCIG will work with
the agency to assist in the planning and control of the burn.
NCIG will make every effort to protect and preserve all riparian
and aquatic habitat. This will include the protection and en-
hancement of the Colorado River. NCIG will control sedimentation
through bank and soil stabilization activities discussed in the
reclamation section of this application.
As mentioned in Post Mining Land Use (Section 9.6), secondary land
•
•
NCIG - Coal Ridge #1 4-76 ABC/1145/910509 ; •
