A down gradient well was installed at the Lacy Loadout facility. Groundwater sampling
was initiated upon completion of the well, according to typical operational requirements,
such as monthly field parameters and quarterly water quality analyses. Limited water
quality data from nearby properties was identified and also presented in the Revised
Permit Application. The well LO-1, was reclaimed in 1995 and the Lacy Loadout was
removed from the permit by TR-014 in 1997.
The Operator intends to have a third party drill two or three coal bed methane test wells
west of the Coal Ridge No. 1 Mine. These test wells will produce some water which will
be piped to the Coal Ridge No. 1 Mine sediment pond during 2007. The water quality
expected to be produced is similar to mine water discharge that has been in contact
with a coal seam. The water will be high in salts, Calcium, Magnesium and Sodium, but
will not have any chemicals added for the test. Seepage from the sediment pond should
be minimal therefore the groundwater regime will not be impacted by the storage and
evaporation of this water. If deemed necessary during reclamation of the pond, the
soils that were in contact with the high salt water will be mixed and blended with native
soils to assure vegetation in the area of the pond is not adversely impacted.
All of the monitoring wells were sealed during 1994 and 1995 concurrently with mine
I•
reclamation. The annual hydrology report will be prepared on a calendar year basis
and will include a discussion of sediment pond discharge and water consumption
including irrigation of the reclaimed site. The report will be submitted annually to the
DRMS by March 30~'.
4.6.4 Protection of Public Parks and Historic Places
The proposed Permit Area does not include any lands within the boundaries of the
National Park System, the National Wildlife Refuge System, the Wild and Scenic Rivers
System, including study rivers designated under Section 5(a) of the Wild and Scenic
Rivers
CB-Coal Ridge No. 1 4-86 ~~ - Z ~ 4/07
