This frrunework is under the National Pollruam <br />.Discharge Elimination Systan (NPDESJ program. The regulations (40 CFR 122.26) require specific types of industrial <br />,raci/icier whidr discharge starmwatw associated with industrial aaiviry (ndustrial srormwater), to obtain cotirrage jot this <br />,dudwrge under an NPDES permit. Fadlirits which discrarge industrial stormwater either directly to surfacr waters or <br />indirectly, through municipal separate storm sewers, must be covered by a permit. <br />The federal effluent guidelines Hutt gotirrn discharges from sand and gravel mining fac(lities (40 CFR 436J control most <br />surface rsrnofffrom mining farilities. Howetirr, there an some sources of stormwattr from these sites which arc trot <br />addressed, such as roads and railroad lines, pond oraslopes, inactitir loadouts, liter used jot storage and maintenance of <br />material handling equipmem, etc. <br />For sand and gratee! operations, other mining and quarrying of nonmetallic minerals acept fuels, and for asphalt and <br />concrete batch plants located ar such facilities, this general permit will mti+er both the process water drsdrarges and <br />
