If the discharge is intermittent, then samples shall be collected doting the pt;riod that discharge occurs. If the pertnittee, using the approved analytical methods, monitors any parameter more frequently then required by this permit, rhea the results of sucb monitoring shall be included in the calculation and re,~porting of the values required in the Discharge Monitoring Report Form or other forms as required by the Division. Such increased frequency shall also be indicated. ~/ Definitions of Sample Type 1. A 'composite' sample, for monitoring requirements, is a minimum of four (4) grab samples collected at equally spaced two (2) hour intervals and pmportiaoed according to flow. 2. A 'grab' sample, for monitoring requirements, is a single 'dip and take' sample. 3. An 'instantaneous' measurement, for monitoring requirements, is a single reading, observation, or measurement performed on site. 4. A 'continuous' measurement, for flow monitoring requirements, is a measurement obtained from m automatic recording device which continually measures flow. 5. A 'visual' observation, for oil and grease monitoring requirements, is observing the discharge to chxk for the presence of a visible sheen or Floating oil. 6. An 'in-situ' measurement, for monitoring requirements, is defined as a single reading, observation or measurement taken in the field at the point of discharge. 7. A '24 hotu~ composite' sample is a combination of at least eight {S) sample aliquots of a< lean 100 milliliters, collected ar equally spaced intervals during the operating hours of a facility over etwenty-four (24) hour period. For volatile poflutants, aliquots must be combined in the laboratory immediately before analysis. The composite must be flow proportional; either the time interval between each aliquot or the volume of each aliquot must be proportiottal to either the wastewater or effluent flow at the time of sampling or the total wastewater or effluent flow since the collection of the previous aliquot. Aliquots may be collected manually or automatically. 1/ In the event an oil shoes or floating oil is observed, a grab sample shall be collected, analyred, and reported on the appropriate DMR or emual report. In addition, corrective cation shall be taken immediately W mitigate the discharge of oil and grease. A description of the corrective action taken should be included with the DMR or annual report. it Where, based on a minimum of 5 samples, the permiree demonstrates to the satisfaction of the Water Quality Control Division that the level of total dissolved solids (TDS) in the effluent can be calculated based upon the level of electrical conductiviy, the permittee may treasure and report TDS in terms of electrical conductivity. F. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Rerresmfetive Semolina Samples and measurements taken as required herein shall be representative of the volume and nature of the monitored discharge. All samples shall be taken at the monitoring points specified is this permit and, unless otherwise specified, before the effluent joins or is diluted by any other westestream, body of water, or substance. Monitoring points shall not be changed without notification to and approval by the Division.
