r activities described within the application not occur within areas
of critical habitat for these species within the time frame of
Q March 15 to July 1. Within that time frame the following sites are
within areas of critical habitat for these species:
Seismic Line 2, FED-12, FED-11, FED-10, FED-8, and FED-38.
Additionally I would recommend that exploration activities at sites
FED-13, FED-14, FED-15, and FED-16 not occur within the March 15 to
July 1 time frame as they are located within a historical area of
critical habitat for Sage Grouse.
SJTf3SB SP$CIR CONCERNS
Much oP the area within the boundaries of proposed exploration is
considered to be critical habitat Por elk and, to some extent, mule
deer. Both species are found throughout the area on a year round
basis however the time Prame oP concern would be during the winter
months when both resident and non resident animals use the area to
overwinter. Exploration activity within this time frame can be
expected to temporarily displace wintering animals. Additionally,
and especially in the event of deep snow conditions, both species
may make extensive use of plowed or packed roads for movement
O purposes. Any service roads used for exploration purposes with
access from public roads should be gated and locked to preclude any
activity beyond the scope of the application that might disturb
wintering big game. Some elk calving does occur within the area
owever calving grounds have not been definitely identified. The
suspension of drilling activities in early spring mentioned on Page
19 of the application should resolve that concern.
O Mud pits (page 23 of application) that are not immediately
3 reclaimed after drilling should be fenced in some fashion to
preclude deer and elk as animals may enter and become trapped in
them.
Please don't hesitate to call with any questions about these
comments or if you need further assistance.
s cerely,
"`__
amen K.
