Comment--Continued
Native Trees and Shrubs:
Pinyon Pine (2" to 6" diameter), Rocky Mountain Juniper, Skunkbush
Sumac, Scrub Oak, and Ponderosa Pine (8" to 14" diameter).
Vegetations which have progressed in the old mined areas have been native
grasses and some weeds such as Russian Thistles and Kochia. Seeds of the
native grasses have been included in the reclamation grass mixture.
G. SUITABILITY OF SOILS
uestion: The soils in yet unaffected areas should be described paying
particu ar attention to their suitability for use in revegetation.
Comment: The soils in the unaffected areas consist of alluvium and mesa
gravels composed of coarse sands, pebbles, and cobbles of Pikes Peak
Granite. Permeability is moderate and percolation is high. This soil will
be used in the revegetation program, mixed with the limestone fines and
recommended fertilizers.
