Engineers' Conmen~Pikeview quarry •
Per Letter of Apr 12, 1979
Page 8.
D. Comment--Continued
is shown. This may vary somewhat as the actual limits of the limestone
are defined during the course of the mining operation. The Industrial
Site and Wildlife Areas have been deliniated along with the Buffer Zone.
The surface runoff facilities are shown in their approximate final
locations. These include several check dams, dissipators, and a possible
retention facility.
An experimental reclamation tract of approximately 2 acres is planned
on a previously mined area. The approximate limits of this tract are
as shown.
This amendment serves to augment the original Reclamation Plan. Upon
acceptance by the Department, this amendment will become a part of the
final Reclamation Plan.
E. DIVISION OF WILDLIFE
.Qu~est~ion: The Division of Wildlife should be consulted in regards to
a ed quately planning the reclamation of that portion of the quarry which
will be used for that purpose.
Comment: The Colorado Springs Office of the State Division of Wildlife
has been contacted and their advice requested with reference to reclamation
of the Wildlife Area. Personnel from the local office have been familiar
with the Pikeview Quarry operation for a number of years. They continue
to express optomism at the possibilities of the site to be reclaimed as
a wildlife area.
The Division has offered suggestions for reclamation of the disturbed
areas. Their conments are included on the attached letter labeled
Exhibit "A".
F. VEGETATION TYPES OF FUTURE AFFECTED AREAS
uestion: The vegetation types of the areas to be affected in the future
srou e carefully described. Also, description of natural invasion of
old mined areas would be very helpful in designing a good revegetation plan.
Comment: Tfre vegetation on the 53 acres of land which up to now has only
been moderately disturbed consist of the following:
Grasses:
Mountain t•7uhly, Needlegrasses, Indian Ricegrass, Western Wheatgrass,
Sideoats Grama, and Little Bluestem.
