Engineers' Commen~Pikeview Quarry •
- Per Letter of Apri 12, 1979
Page 6.
Question qS--Comment Continued
Tract "B" (25 Acres):
Reclamation to begin in the year 1990, after the mining operation has
been completed on approximately 12 acres. This reclamation is to last
for approximately 4 years (1 year planting and 3 years maintenance).
After the mining operation is completed in this entire tract,
reclamation will commence on the remaining 13 acres.
Tract "C" (14 Acres):
Reclamation to begin in 1987, and last for approximately 4 years.
C. WATER CONTROL SYSTEMS
uestion: Water control systems should be carefully explained indicating
ow the quarry will be protected from severe erosion. This should address
the use of diversion canals, settling ponds, and other pertinent measures.
Comment: On May 15, 1979, an inspection was made in the Pikeview Quarry
for erosion caused by recent heavy rains. During this inspection we could
not locate any noticeable erosion except for a relatively small area at
the side slopes of the limestone waste stockpile. The rationale for
determining runoff and the reconmendations for water diversions are
i explained as folloo-rs:
All surface runoff from Pikeview Quarry and that area West of the
Quarry is to Douglas Creek, a tributary of Monument Creek. The
site is located in the upper portion of three (3) sub-basins of
Douglas Creek, as shown on Attachment No. 5. The three sub-basins
are relatively small, being approximately 60 acres in size.
North Drainage:
Surface runoff from the North sub-basin is directed to stream flow
across the most Northerly 10 acres of the site. As this stream flow
crosses the mining area it is recommended the four (4) check dams be
installed at 200 foot intervals within this area. Three (3) additional
check dams would be installed at the Easterly side of the site where I
the stream flows beside the interior mining road. (See Attachment N5
for locations of check dams.) These check dams would reduce velocities,
erosion, and retain sediment. Sediment tirould be removed from behind
these check dams periodically. Depending upon development of the i
~ industrial site and specific demands for fire flow, afire retention
