SHIPPS PIT - WELD COUNTY
EXHIBIT B: MINING PLAN

At this time the Shipps Pit is being utilized by the Department of
Highways maintenance forces with the intent of removing material over
the next several years. However, if we should have a contract
construction project in the area of this pit it is quite possible that
we would also make this material available to the contractor who is
chosen to do the work. The mining procedures could vary as the
different contractors and the maintenance each use their own specific
methods of extraction to fit the equipment they have and the type of
material they need. The following will be a generalized discussion of
the mining plan with the understanding that the exact methods, sequence,
and equipment will require some latitude. In general the operation
will be conducted in the following manner:
a) The pit is located in the creek bed and flood plain of Lone Tree
Creek. Material will initially be removed from the creek bed. The
sand and gravel is right at the surface so no stripping of topsoil
will be required in the creek bed area. When excavation proceeds
into the flood plain the top 0.3', approximately, of topsoil will be
stripped and stockpiled. Stripping would probably be done with a
scraper or dozer.
b) The gravel excavation will be done by a dozer, front end loader, or
similar type equipment.
c) As the material is removed it will probably be processed through a
screening plant or rock crusher and stockpiled. The location of the
screening plant or crusher, and stockpiles would be left to the
discretion of the people performing the work; providing it is
contained within the permit area.
d) The material might be hauled directly from the stockpile to the road
for use as untreated base, shouldering material, sanding material,
etc.; or it is possible that an asphalt mixing plant could be brought
to the area to produce treated base or asphalt pavement.
e) If the gravel mining was done by a contractor with a specified amount
to be produced far use on some specific highway construction project,
the work in the permit area would normally be completed within 2 or
