SHIPPS PIT - WELD COUNTY
EXHIBIT D: WILDLIFE. WATER RESOURCES, VEGETATION AND SOILS INFORMATION
"CONTINUED"
ESTIMATED fd
COMMON NAME SCIENTIFIC NAME COMPOSITION BY WT.
Western Wheatgrass Agropyron Smithii 40
Crested Wheatgrass Agropyron Desertorum 5
Various Annuals (Asters, Tumbleweed, etu.) 4
4. Soils
Based on information from the U. S. Soil Conservation Service the soil
in this area is known as altvan loam. It is a deep, well drained
soil on terraces and was formed in old alluvium from material
deposited by major rivers and creeks.
In the terraces the surface soil is loam about 10 inches thick. The
subsoil is clay loam and sandy clay loam about 15 inches thick. The
substratum is loamy sand or sandy loam over sand and gravel.
The present creek channel and previous pit area has sand and gravel
at the surface. While the exact gravel depth has not yet been
determined, previous excavations have indicated over eight feet of
gravel.
