~i
SHIPPS PIT - WELD COUNTY

EXHIBIT D: WILDLIFE, WATER RESOURCES, VEGETATION, AND SOILS INFORMATION
1. Wildlife
Please see enclosed letter from Division of Wildlife concerning
wildlife impact far the area.
2. Water Resources
Our excavation is in the channel and flood plain of the Lone Tree
Creek, which is a dry creek that flows only during periods of runoff.
The creek channel ranges from approximately 12' to 104' throughout
the pit area. During periods of high runoff water will be able to
pond in the excavation; however, it is felt that this will cause no
problems as the bottom of the pit will be granular material which
will allow the water to disperse and cause no stagnant water. In
addition, previous excavations made in the channel have been filled
by sand and gravel washed down the creek by occasional floods. This
will tend to lessen the water trapping capabilities of our excavation.
The excavation is to be such that ground water elevations will not
be encountered.
3. Vegetation
The area where we will remove topsoil is presently being used as
rangeland grazing. The following plant species with their estimated
percent composition by weight were reported by the U. S. Soil
Conservation Service after afield inspection of the site.
ESTIMATED "o
COMMON NAME SCIENTIFIC NAME COMPOSITION BY WT.
Blue Grama Bouteloua Gracilis 5
Buffalo Grass
Wavy Leaf Thistle
Texas Tumblegrass
Fringed Sage
Sand Dropseed
False Buffalograss
Prickley Pear Cactus
Red Three Awn
Common Sunflower
Buchloe Dactyloides 15
Cirsium Undulatum T
Schedonnardus Paniculatus 1
Artemisia Frigida 1
Sporobolus Cryptandrus 25
Munroa Squarrosa 1
Opuntia Polyacantha T
Aristida Longiseta 3
Helianthus Annus T
