HONEYWOOD COAL COMPANY
' STORM WATER MANAGEMENT PLAN
' 1. Description of Mining Activities
The mining method employed is open pit strip mining. wheel
scrapers and track dozers or other rubber tired or tracked
' equipment are used to handle topsoil and overburden material.
The overburden material requires blasting. A track mounted
drill hole rig is used to drill the blast holes. The required
' blasting agent is delivered to the mine as needed by a local
vendor.
t The coal is ripped with a track dozer in order to prepare it
for loading. Coal is loaded into highway type trucks with a
rubber tired front end loader or other comparable loading
equipment. The coal haulage trucks transport the coal from
' the mine to the coal consumers via the county road located to
the south of the area to be mined. Up to eighty loaded coal
trucks travel the road each day. Up to 480,000 tons of coal
' per year will be mined from the property.
The site boundary (permit area) encompasses 1197 acres. A
total of 304 acres will be disturbed during the duration of
the permitted mining operation.
The mine is located approximately 3 miles southeast of
' Naturita, Montrose County, Colorado. The turn off to the mine
site is located on State Route 80, 3.4 miles south of the
intersection with State Route 145.
2.
