All mining operations have
been of a modified room and pillar type with haulage rooms being driven on
' the strike of the coal seam and rooms being driven up the pitch of the coal
seam, Coal from the rooms has been moved by gravity to the haulage room
' where it was loaded into rail cars, hauled to the slope and discharged into
the skip for hoistering up the slope to the surface. On the surface, the
coal was discharged from the skip, sized, and placed in storage bins
awaiting sale to customers who provided their own vehicle for transporting
the coal or for trucks to haul the coal to the rail head. A scale located
' at the site weighed in the empty haulage vehicles and weighed the loaded
ones to determine the weight of the coal produced and sold from the
property (Exhihit 8).
' In 1979 the mine produced 471 tans of coal with a work force of 5
(1980 Coal Facts, Colorado Mining Association). The mine is currently
producing approximately 200 tons per month, a limitation due to the
existing market conditions and not to production capability. The "D" seam
' has been mined_ near the outcrop to depths of a few hundred feet (Exhibit
7). No additional rock tunnels will be driven.
Proposed Operation
Under the proposed 5-year plan the mine will be operated in the same
manner as it has been in the recent past. These methods are in current use
' and have the current approval of all governmental agencies that have
exercised jurisdiction.
' A complete list of equipment in use is provided as Exhibit 9. Under
'~ the proposed operation, the mine workings will be extended by one
