Revegetation Monitorine •
Monitoring of revegetated areas at the Seneca II-W Mine and the II-W South Extension area
map consist of both qualitative evaluations and quantitative measurements. Qualitarive
evaluations will be cazried out at least annually during the growing season, while quantitative
measurements and evaluations may be on a more periodic basis.
Qualitative evaluations will consist of visual observations of newly seeded aeeas in order to evaluate
seeding success, monitor for excessive Tilling and gullying, determine the success of applied
reclamation practices, identify potential noxious weed problems, and estimate the degree of species
establishment duough natural regeneration. Qualitative evaluations may extend past the first several
yeazs for areas of new rill and gully repair, azeas of noxious weed control, azeas requiring restricted
interseeding or reseeding, of aeeas that have been planted to trees and shmbs.
As stated above, monitoring through quantitative measurements will be carried out periodically on
revegetated azeas at the Seneca II-W Mine. Revegetation monitoring of a given area of reclamation
will be identified by yeaz of initial seeding, and conducted during the second or third growing season,
and periodically thereafter (every 2-4 yeazs) until bond is released. Reference azea sampling may be •
conducted coincidentally with revegetation monitoring. Fot purposes of this discussion, quantitative
sampling during the last two consecutive yeazs of the extended Lability period is not considered as
monitoring. The data and results from the quantitative monitoring program will be provided to the
Division by Mazch 30 of the following yeaz as part of the Annual Reclamation Report
The following discussion details parameters to be sampled, sampling methodologies, and sampling
intensity for the revegetation monitoring progrun.
Sampline Parameters
Cover. Terms for purposes of monitoring and bond release will be defined as follows:
First-Hit Plant Covet. Percent of the ground surface covered in vertical view by living plant
pazts (parts living at the time of observation plus attached parts that were produced during
the current growing season). These data add up to 100.00 and plants beneath other plants in
vertical projection are ignored. With respect to the point-intercept method of covet •
sampling, "first-hit" data include only the uppermost hit at each point projection location.
TR-Fn
